Getting On The Air
I received my Technician license in February 2018. My original callsign was KG5YFZ, and I later moved to the vanity call K2SMT.
Most of my operating has been listening and working the 2-meter and 70-centimeter VHF/UHF bands. I have also spent some time with DMR, including Talk Groups 91 and 93.
Radio Equipment
The older site documented an Icom 5100D in the Nissan Titan, a Vero VR-N7500 in the workshop, a TYT MD-2017 for DMR, a Baofeng UV-5X3, and a pair of TYT 9800 quad-band radios.
The TYT 9800 covers 10 meters, 6 meters, 2 meters, and 70 centimeters. As a Technician, the voice privileges I was using were primarily on 6 meters, 2 meters, and 70 centimeters. Because that radio is FM-only, 6-meter use was mostly local repeater work.
Where It Was Going
The original page was intended as an evolving record of the equipment, operating experiments, and other amateur-radio projects I was working with as I got deeper into the hobby.
